Inspection
The sport of CAS is demanding in both accuracy of shot and time. When a top line shooter first “sees” the target in his/her sight it is a reflex reaction that fires the weapon. The sooner they can respond, sight and fire, the faster their overall time. A top line shooter can not spend the fractions of seconds necessary waiting to “center” on the target before taking the shot. They have to know that at the instant the target enters their sights that their firearm will put that shot within fractions of inches to what they vision--each and every time. Again, accuracy vs. time.
To be on top of your game three things need to be honed to perfection, 1. Your individual skills—practice, practice, practice 2. Your firearm 3. Your ammunition
We take care of item number two and make recommendation to you for item number three. Item number one become easier and more fun when you are able to hit what you are aiming at-quickly.
Some firearms come from the factory with closer tolerances than others and therefore do not require the reworking that others do. Each firearm is different and requires different types of tooling to get them into specifications. That is why an accurate cost or estimate cannot be given until each individual firearm is inspected. We only charge for what we do, and do not “average” prices causing the easier job to make up for the more involved. We feel it is fairer that way
Once a firearm is inspected, a complete “path” can be laid out as to the types of retooling and modifications that will be necessary to have a specific firearm perform to a specific standard. This is where the customizing of the firearm to the individual begins to take place.
Items we check during that initial inspection: 1. Headspace 2. Cylinder to barrel gap 3. Endshake 4. Base pin alignment 5. Base pin to cylinder fit 6. Barrel size (slugging the barrel) 7. Micrometer readings of the cylinder bores 8. Forcing cone tolerances 9. Sight alignment 10. Spring readings (hammer and trigger) 11. Cylinder lock up 12. Cylinder to barrel alignment 13. Over-cock 14. Overall barrel condition (rifling, etc.) 15. Excessive wear 16. Frame alignment issues 17. Any prior modifications made from factory settings or OEM parts 18. Chamber sizing and wear 19. Hammer alignment 20. Check timing 21. Overall looks and general condition
A full written report charting the individual specifications of your firearm is given and then discussed with you prior to any work taking place. We can give you recommendations as to what level of work needs to be performed to match your firearm to your expectations. All this is performed for a very nominal charge depending on the type of firearm.
THESE CHECKS AND INSPECTIONS ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BEFORE YOU PURCHASE A USED FIREARM!!!!!!!
KNOW WHAT YOU ARE BUYING BEFORE YOU BUY IT!!!!!
