COMPLETE BLUEPRINTING SERVICES ON SINGLE ACTION REVOLVERS, RIFLES, AND SHOTGUNS
The theory is simple - align the bullet with the chamber, align the chamber with the barrel, make everything the same size so the bullet transitions from one to the other with a minimum of deflection, ensure that every cartridge is of the exact same size and load-and the bullet should go where it is “pointed”.
Unfortunately, that is easier said than done. The theory is simple; the execution is a little more difficult.
What does blueprinting involve and how does it help?
For a revolver (or most firearms for that matter) to be accurate (a 2” group vs. a 6” group) all the components have to come into accurate alignment as they were originally designed. In today’s world of mass production, manufacturers have created “tolerances” for each component or sub-assembly so that a minimum of hand fitting, if any, is necessary on the production line. Many of these components are not even tooled by the final manufacturer. A single revolver can be made up of components manufactured by many different suppliers or vendors in many different locations - all to the “tolerances” supplied to them.
That is why one firearm is more accurate, feels better, doesn’t break as often etc., than another identical firearm made by the same manufacturer, on the same assembly line, in the same factory, on the same day, and by the same team of workers. The same holds true in many manufactured items today in our society-automobiles for example.
Simply put - Blueprinting is the art of inspecting, checking, and recording those component tolerances and then remachining, filing, lapping, etc. those components into the exacting specifications that the original design called for. In that way, a blueprinted firearm, using the same exact load, will perform within much tighter levels of accuracy than a factory firearm each and every time. Not saying that the “out of the box” factory firearm doesn’t give “average” performance - or performance good enough for the average shooter; but surely not the type of consistent performance demanded by those shooters trying to be on the top of their game.
The same holds true in automobiles. Although the same basic design, the engine in your family sedan does not put out the same horsepower as the one in the race-car that has been modified and blueprinted.
